What does it do?

The Chinese name Xiao Feng Pian literally translates as "clear wind pills." This classical formula is used for various skin discomforts such as red, itchy, scaly skin, and rashes.^†

Xiao Feng San effectively expels wind, eliminates dampness, clears heat and cools the blood. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), skin conditions such as those mentioned above present when external wind-heat or wind-dampness is allowed to enter the body (often due to a deficiency of protective Qi) where it encounters pre-existing damp-heat. The wind then becomes trapped between the flesh and skin and is unable to vent externally or drain internally. Eventually, it transforms into wind-toxin presenting as red, itchy and/or purulent type skin lesions. The tongue may have a white or yellow coating (indicating the level of heat penetration) and the pulse may be forceful, floating and rapid.

The pattern associated with the formula Xiao Feng San has three primary aspects: wind-heat, dampness and blood-heat. The herbs which compose the formula therefore can be understood by dividing them into three groups.

The first group of herbs include Jing Jie (Schizonepeta), Fang Feng (Siler root), Niu Bang Zi (Burdock seed) and Chan Tui (Cicada moulting) which disperse external wind, clear heat from the skin and relieve itching.

The deputy herbs Cang Zhu, Tong Cao and Ku Shen (Sophora root) dry dampness and clear damp-heat. The Dui Yao pair (traditional combination) of Shi Gao (Gypsum) and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena rhizome) clear Qi level heat which is an important consideration here in order to prevent the heat from penetrating into even deeper levels of the body which would only exacerbate the condition. Shi Gao and Zhi Mu are used together specifically because they are able to strongly clear excess heat while protecting precious fluids and Yin which may otherwise be damaged not only by the heat but by the use of cold and drying medicinals essential to this formula. Shi Gao and Zhi Mu both clear heat from the Lung which is the Zang-Fu organ that dominates the exterior, and therefore directly influences the skin and interstices.

The herbs Di Huang (Rehmannia root) and Dang Gui (Chinese Angelica root) cool, nourish and gently invigorate the blood which aid in extinguishing wind. Gan Cao (Licorice) clears heat, relieves toxicity and harmonizes the formula.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Finishgirl68 from keep on hand always! In the past year I have recently developed itchy patches on my neck. These stay at Bay as long as I use Skin windclear! As I have found out through research any itching on the skin is a wind condition, so these are always a staple as regular use and if I get about of itchiness I will up my dose and the effects are immediate! I have been taking these for more than 6 months or more and will continue to use them. As it mentions, it does take some time to get into the body, so you must be patient for your first 4 weeks or so!! Great product thank you activeherb!!

The doctors couldn't identify the reason for it and they prescribed some steroids to apply externally. The scars tends to go off and resurface after some time. I felt steroids wasn't permanent solution and as I use to buy other medicines from Activeherb I browsed their product remedies and bought Skin wind clear tablets. After a week use can notice disappearance of the scars starting. Can see the improvements rather when using steroid. Ask her continue for some more time to have a full cure.

I used this formula last year when I first have a major outbreak and it worked wonderfully. I remember my skin healed completely and I was so impressed. These few month, I had same problem again and use the formula. It didn't completely clear up like last time. It still itches sometimes, maybe I just need to take this formula longer. I just take 6 pills twice a day. Somehow I remember last time it cleared up really fast so I was hoping it will do the same again especially this time it wasn't as serve.

Using the recommended dose on the bottle my skin issues will usually clear up in about a bottle and a half. It's amazing that something you take internally will clear up dry skin issues because I used to have to put lotion or skin cream on all winter - not anymore.

Not sure if it is eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis or whatever. My HMO health plan conveniently classifies it as a "cosmetic" lesion, meaning they will not pay for treatment. It is continuously red (inflammation), scales, and develops callous-like layers of dead-skin as if it is constantly irritated and tries to "heal" itself. I have tried many creams, lotions and ointments to no avail. Out of desperation, I started taking skin windclear 2 weeks ago, 5tabs - 3xday, between meals. The redness (inflammation) all but disappeared within 5 days and looks considerably less traumatized overall. The scaling has greatly been reduced. The calloused skin surrounding the "lesion" area appears to be softening. I would expect this calloused area to still take awhile to work its way back to normal. Even a scab takes 6-weeks to heal by comparison, so I am not at all discouraged by the progress to date. I expect to continue taking this product for the foreseeable future. On another note, I additionally have suffered from sleep interruption for decades where I wake up with an attack of itching over various parts of my body at almost the same time every night 3:00 p.m. This stopped after 3 days of taking Skin Windclear. So Skin Windclear cured one condition of mine in a matter of 3 days and the other described initially above has greatly been improved. This is an excellent product.

The dosages of different formulas vary.  Some herbs are stronger so they need less, and for other reasons, as well.  No worries.  Five may be just enough for you, or it may be a little less effective.  You'll just need to experiment and see what works best.  I've been using TCM formulas for over forty years, and this brand in particular for about thirty years.

Does anyone find it works on adult acne?  The formula is the same as a product I used to use, made by another company, they called "Tang Kuei and Arctium" and that one was for acne as well as rashes and such. Anyone?  Can't use the AcniPearl formula.
