Qing Fei Yi Huo Wan (Pian)

An All Natural Chinese Herbal Supplement
Qing Fei Yi Huo Pian (Qing Fei Yi Huo Wan, Lung Fireclear™, 清肺抑火丸) is an all natural herbal supplement traditionally used to manage productive cough with thick, yellow sputum.

Qing Fei Yi Huo Wan (Pian) Product Details
What does it do?
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, the Lung is responsible for normal downward movement of Qi, which keeps the Lungs clear of phlegm. When the Lungs are damaged by heat, phlegm may accumulate and congeal, leading to cough with thick yellow sputum. The Lungs also have a close energetic relationship to the Large Intestine. When the Lungs are injured by heat or fire, the Large Intestine may become dry, causing dry stool or even constipation.

Qing Fei Yi Huo Wan clears heat from the Lungs, relieves cough, and resolves phlegm. It also relaxes the bowels. Cough due to heat or fire in the Lungs may also present with dry mouth, dry stool or constipation.

Qing Fei Yi Huo Wan is appropriate for repletion (excess) type Lung heat represented by a red tongue with yellow fur and a slippery, rapid pulse.

Qing Fei Yi Huo Wan is composed of 10 medicinal herbs which clear heat and dispel phlegm from the Lungs, restore normal function and regulate the bowels.

Huang Qin (Scutellaria) is a bitter and cold herb used to clear heat and sedate fire in the Lungs. Huang Qin is a flag-ship herb used to treat cough with yellow phlegm. It is often combined with Zhi Zi (Gardenia) for this purpose, as it is here. Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena) is also frequently found in formulas for excess Lung heat in combination with Huang Qin. Zhi Mu simultaneously clears heat, nourishes Yin and moistens dryness. Moistening dryness is an important consideration in such cases since long-standing heat can cause injury in the fluids. Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthes root) is also used for this purpose. Tian Hua Fen generates body fluids while clearing heat and dispelling pus.

Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillaria) is very effective at stopping cough and dissolving phlegm. Zhe Bei Mu has been studied and found to contain chemical compounds (peimine and peiminine) which have anti-tussive (anti-coughing) effects.1 Huang Bai (Phellodendron bark) is similarly anti-tussive. Huang Bai clears heat and dries dampness and is an expectorant. Importantly, Huang Bai also has demonstrated antibiotic action.2

Ku Shen (Sophora root) clears heat and dries dampness like many of the herbs in this formula, but Ku Shen also has a marked ability to relax the bronchioles (part of the air passageway system) and acts as an expectorant.3 Jie Geng (Platycodon) is a phlegm-resolving herb which ventilates Lung Qi and dispels pus and phlegm. Jie Geng is also an effective anti-tussive and expectorant.

Qian Hu (Peucedanum) directs Qi downward, dispels phlegm and disperses heat. Da Huang (Rhubarb root) is a downward draining purgative used to relieve constipation. Da Huang is extremely cold in nature and has an excellent ability to purge excess fire.
